He drives the design, formulation, and implementation of government plans and policies at the Federal, States, and Local Governments levels. His passion lies in strengthening government institutions to deliver inclusive growth and sustainable development to better the lives of the people”

Mr. Haruna currently work as a Senior Policy and Research Analyst in the Economic Growth Department, Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning where he designs and formulates: short-term; medium-term; and long-term plans and development policies at the Federal, States, and Local Governments levels. He also undertake the periodic review and appraisal of policies, programmes and projects in collaboration with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that drive the real sector. He conduct researches on topical issues, as well as undertake monitoring and evaluation of sectoral projects and programmes in the productive sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Over the years, Haruna has been involved in so many in-depth policy studies and surveys, notable among them are: A study of the informal sector in Nigeria; designed of Economic Model for the MSMEs development in the FTC; An assessment of Free Trade Zones and its implication to economic growth; Nigeria Aid Policy and Strategy (2012-2015); Review of Official Development Assistance in Nigeria (2008-2012); Economic Growth and Recovery Plan (ERGP, 2017-2020), amongst others.

Mr. Haruna’s driving force lies in strengthening government institutions to deliver inclusive growth and sustainable development. For this, he represented the MBNP in the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP, 2017-2019)’s commitments for the Open Governance Partnership (OGP) in Nigeria where he advocates for open budget transparency and accountability in government businesses to deliver the much needed economic growth.

Recently, Haruna was a Technical Support Staff that successfully designed and organized the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) Focus Labs (from March 12th to April 20th, 2018) in three work-streams of the real sectors namely: Agriculture and transportation; Power and Gas; and Manufacturing and Processing (including solid minerals). The labs discussed on critical projects that offer the most catalytic impact on investment and job creation by resolving some of the most problematic bottlenecks and inter-agency rivalry that affects additional business investment opportunities in Nigeria. The labs has identified 164 projects spread over the six geopolitical zones of the country with a total potential investment worth US$22.5 billion and 513,981 jobs by 2020.

Mr. Haruna holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in International Relations cum Political Science from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and a Master’s Degree in Economic Policy and Development from the Korea University, Seoul-South Korea. He is currently undertaking a P.hD program in Development Economics at the Kobe University in Japan.
